Method & caveats. NAEP Geography, grade 8, average scale score. DISCONTINUED: NAGB removed geography from the assessment schedule in July 2019, so 2018 is the final point — the only long-run national measure of American students' geographic knowledge ends there. 1994 is the accommodations-not-permitted sample, footnoted by NCES on the same trend. The 0–500-scale NAEP Long-Term Trend and 0–300-scale main assessments are NCES's national probability samples; values are national public+private averages for all students.
