Method & caveats. NAEP Civics, grade 8, average scale score. Assessed 1998, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 (an irregular ~4–8-year cadence, drawn as a connected trend the way NCES charts it). The 2026 assessment was administered; results are expected summer 2027. Grades 4 and 12 were also assessed through 2010; grade 8 carries the trend. The 0–500-scale NAEP Long-Term Trend and 0–300-scale main assessments are NCES's national probability samples; values are national public+private averages for all students.
