Method & caveats. Index summarizing a survey of ~500 households on personal finances, business conditions, and buying conditions. Annual figures as published by the Survey Research Center; the annual CSV begins in 1961, while the monthly history begins in 1952. Michigan's Surveys of Consumers moved increasingly online through 2017–2024, which Michigan documents as a level effect. A current-year annual row is marked partial through its published month; if absent, the mean of published current-year months is used. Breaks: 1978 monthly collection; later transition from telephone to web interviewing.
