Method & caveats. Number of federal felony and Class A misdemeanor cases in which an individual was sentenced in the fiscal year, read from each year's own Sourcebook of Federal Sentencing Statistics overview page (the Commission's own headline count of cases it received documentation on for that fiscal year). Breaks: Booker (2005) changed mandatory guideline practice; 2018 Sourcebook changed variables and presentation. Counts are individual sentencing events documented to USSC, not unique people; annual documentation deadlines may differ.
