Method & caveats. Job cuts announced by US employers with artificial intelligence as the stated reason, from the outplacement firm's monthly report (tracked since 1993; AI as a reason since 2023). Announced cuts, not realized layoffs, and the reason is the employer's own; Challenger's parallel Technological Update category changed labels each year. 2026 is year-to-date through August. Values read from the December 2023, 2024, and 2025 and the August 2026 report tables, and cross-checked against the since-2023 cumulative printed in the December 2025 report.
